Monday AM Section B July 28-Aug 25 (5 Weeks): Sculptural + Functional Coil Pots with Kim + Kyle, Total Beginner - Advanced
Mondays 10:30am-1:00pm
July 28 - August 25
5 weeks $275 or combine this class with Section A, Handbuilt Wall Hangings with Vicky, 3 weeks July 7 - 21 for $375 using code “8WEEKMONDAY” at checkout.
Total Beginner - Advanced
Instructors: Kim Allison + Kyle Day
In this 5-week specialty class, Kim and Kyle will take you on a deep dive into the world of coil-building, one of the oldest pottery techniques, dating back to 8000BC. Deceptively simple, yet surprisingly challenging to master, developing an understanding of the foundations of coil building will open the door to pots of all sizes and shapes, limited only by your imagination. Kim will teach July 28, August 18, and August 25, with a focus on sculptural/decorative pots such as vases, abstract jars, or pedestal bowls. Kyle will teach August 4 and August 11, with a focus on more functional pots - cups, bowls, pouring pots, vases. You’ll get the chance to experience both the similarities and differences in approach of two potters working with the same technique.
This class covers handbuilding only. There will be no pottery wheel work.
Adult classes are for freshman in high school and older and include: one 25 lb. bag of white or red stoneware clay; 24/7 studio access via an Open Studio Hours signup sheet; all glazes and firings.
You will need a basic 8-piece tool kit. You can buy one at the studio for $28 or order one before you start class. We like the Kemper kit from dickblick.com or TheCeramicShop.com.
Please Note: Putting a class in your cart DOES NOT automatically save your spot(s) in that class. Registration is not confirmed until you’ve completed the checkout process.
