Total Beginner - Advanced
Instructor: Vicky Blanco
In this 3-week specialty class, Vicky will teach students of all levels to handbuild a hanging wall pillow or wall block (small works of art to hang in your home) using slabs and a variety of decorating techniques. The class demonstration will focus largely on painted underglazes and carved surfaces known as sgraffito, but Vicky will be able to guide you through a variety of decoration ideas to help make your vision for your wall hanging a reality. Vicky will demo one of her Cholita wall hangings pictured in the first image below, but you can test your hand at whatever shape you can imagine!
This class covers handbuilding only. There will be no pottery wheel work.
Adult classes are for freshman in high school and older and include: one 25 lb. bag of white or red stoneware clay; 24/7 studio access via an Open Studio Hours signup sheet; all glazes and firings.
You will need a basic 8-piece tool kit. You can buy one at the studio for $28 or order one before you start class. We like the Kemper kit from dickblick.com or TheCeramicShop.com.
