Submitting a form does not guarantee you a spot, but we will try to accommodate as many people as possible. Once all forms are in and we assign spots, we will send you a workshop payment link.

Soda Firing with Ben Eberle
Shelburne Falls, MA

October 18 - 19, 2025: Glaze, load the kiln, and fire continuously overnight, soda late in the day Sunday.

October 25, 12pm: Unload day!

Workshop max: 13 spots

Full spot: $400, 25lbs of clay

Half spot: $200, 12.5lbs of clay

Workshop participants MUST be students or AIR in Sept/Oct session.

Payment and Cancelation Policy:

We will inform you ASAP if we’re able to get you a spot in the firing. Payment will be due then to confirm your spot.
If you need to cancel, you can do so for a full refund on or before September 10, ONLY if none of your wood clay has been used so that we can pass your spot and clay to someone on the waitlist. If your clay has been used, we cannot refund you.
There will be no refunds after September 10, but we are happy to bring your bisqued work to include in the firing.

Workshop Info:

We will provide ST508 wood fire stoneware clay, which is rated for high temperatures. Do not use your regular studio clay.
No plates or large bowls, but otherwise, you can make whatever you would like from your allotment of wood fire clay. Pieces around 4-5” wide and/or 8-9” tall work best. You will also want some small filler pieces to fit in the gaps between pots and pack the kiln.
Glazing on Friday October 17 will be an option for participants who arrive early.
Breakfast and lunch will be potluck by participants on both Saturday and Sunday. Dinner on Saturday will be a group pizza order.
Plan to return Saturday, October 25 at 12pm for the kiln unload.

Housing Options:

Airbnb in Shelburne falls or surrounding towns. Several options are within a 15 min drive.
Rent from friends of Ben who are 8 mins away from the kiln site.
Camp on the kiln grounds with access to the property owner’s bathroom (Molly Cantor).
