8 Weeks

Pre-Intermediate - Advanced
Instructor: Kyle Day

This eight-week specialty class will focus on Japanese style teaware as well as some of the rituals surrounding the preparation and enjoyment of tea. As part of each class, we’ll discuss tea history and how Japanese culture and society influenced how these forms and rituals came to be, starting in week 1 with the origin and evolution of the traditional tea ceremony. There will be a total of four projects during this session, each focusing on a different way to work with clay.

This session will also focus on planning ahead and making with intention. Students at all levels will set their own personal goals to determine what skills they'd like to focus on, whether that be how to design a cohesive set or simply improving their technical skills.

Adult classes are for freshman in high school and older and include: one 25 lb. bag of white or red stoneware clay; 24/7 studio access via an Open Studio Hours signup sheet; all glazes and firings

You will need a basic 8-piece tool kit. You can buy one at the studio for $28 or order one before you start class. We like the Kemper kit from dickblick.com or TheCeramicShop.com.
