8 Week Adult Clay Classes:

HERE ARE WHAT THE LEVELS MEAN

TOTAL BEGINNER- never worked in clay before. Needs all the info

BEGINNER-still learning to wedge, center, and pull up walls. Needs to learn more to do it independently. Can do it with help. Taken at least one class already.

BEGINNER with some experience- Just starting to get the hang of centering, still can't quite make the clay do what they want all the time but they are gaining independence on the wheel and feel comfortable coming in to practice independently.

INTERMEDIATE- Can wedge, center, and pull up walls to create many shapes. Still learning how to make their work lighter, trim better, don't know how to make all forms yet. Still working on new surface techniques and glazing better

ADVANCED- Have honed their skills. Have started to create a body of work that suits them. Are able to watch any demo and go off and do it. Have already learned most of the surface techniques possible.

Next Session of Classes

Picture
May/June students have priority early registration for Sept/Oct.  Classes usually fill and we work on a first come first serve basis for any open spots.   If need be there is also a waiting list and that can often be a way into the class you want.  Wait lists do not carry over from session to session so you will need to register for each session. Don't hesitate to contact us to find out if there is space in a class.  You can sign up for our mailing list on the top of our homepage or below.  Next Session will be Sept/Oct 2023. Class price will be $325. There will be a variety of classes being offered that are the same as our regular schedule.  Artist in Residence spaces will cost $190/month.

Artist-in-Residence

Picture
We have enough space for 8-9 artists-in-residence who rent access for $190/mo.  This includes firings, glazes, and shelf space.  You by clay from the studio as you need it for $35/25lbs. This is perfect for artists who want to work on their own and already have expertise in working with clay.  Currently we have limited openings for artists-in-residence spaces.

Please contact us if you are interested.  You will be asked to send images of your work. We can start a waiting list if need be.  Sometimes the best way to access the studio is through the classes.  You still get access and many use a class to do their independent project.

Payment and Refund Policy

Payment is expected after you register to save your space in class, unless you have made other arrangements with Kirsten.  Payment plans can be set up if need be.

Since almost all of our classes run full, if you register for class that means that someone else has been turned away to save your place in class.   For this reason we cannot offer refunds if you decide to drop-out of class unless you drop out MORE THAN A WEEK (7 Days) BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS for any reason, personal, medical, accident prone, work schedule change.... If you drop out more than a week before class begins we will refund your class minus a $50 registration fee. Otherwise if you are within a week of the first class starting we will be unable to refund you. We will make every effort to accommodate you if you need to switch classes due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts or other such emergencies or events but can not guarantee a spot in another class if they are already full. It is our goal to make you happy and to teach you the joy of working with clay.

When you sign up for any class at TCS, you sign up understanding that the pandemic is out of our control and we will not be giving refunds or postponing our classes as we will switch to online learning.  We will continue to teach the highest level of ceramics education through our Clay School @Home Studio Program. There are no refunds if you get sick of need to drop out for personal reasons. We will make up all classes that The Clay School needs to cancel (but this almost never happens unless it snows!)

We don't prorate classes if you are going away on vacation or just going to miss a few. Please, please feel free to make-up any class you might miss by attending another class being offered during the same session. You do need to check with the teacher first to make sure they have room for you in the class you want to attend. Every effort will be made to find a make-up class that works for you.  We can also send you a video project from our library in lieu of a make-up class.  Make-up classes do not carry over into the next 8 week session.

We want you to work, have fun, and get the most out of your time at The Clay School.
