Lynn, Massachusetts

TEEN WHEEL POTTERY CLASS $275
Wednesdays 4-6pm
Dates TBA

Ages 13-18
Instructor - Andi MacKay

This is a great class for teens to learn the skills of using a pottery wheel.  It takes a lot of practice and some strength so we have made this class 2 hours long and for kids 13 and older.  Don't worry we won't blind fold them (see photo) like the "Pottery Throwdown" on HBO until the end!
All work created will be food and dishwasher safe.

Wednesday Night Class PORCELAIN CLASS
INTERMEDIATES- ADVANCED

(8 weeks $310) Plus $45 Materials Fee
July 6 - Aug 24
Wed. 7-9:30 p.m.
Instructor- Kim Allison

If you’ve been working in stoneware and want to try your hand at porcelain, this is is the class for you! Porcelain is a soft, smooth, clay body that is whiter and stronger than stoneware. It allows you to build and throw thinner forms, and provides a beautiful backdrop for surface decoration. But with the perks comes a temperamental nature. Don’t worry - there are many tips and tricks to help you befriend the porcelain!
Students in this class will be introduced to both throwing and handbuilding with porcelain, learning how to adjust the way they handle the clay to account for its distinctive qualities. We will discuss differences in throwing, water use, dealing with warpage and clay memory, controlling drying and cracking, creating supports for handbuilt projects, and more.

THIS CLASS IS NOT for anyone brand new to clay who hasn't already learned how to center and make basic forms independently.

Porcelain clay will be provided as part of the session fee for students in this class. A limited amount of extra porcelain is available for purchase at $45/bag

Next Session of Classes

Picture
May/June students have priority early registration for Sept/Oct.  Classes usually fill and we work on a first come first serve basis for any open spots.   If need be there is also a waiting list and that can often be a way into the class you want.  Wait lists do not carry over from session to session so you will need to register for each session. Don't hesitate to contact us to find out if there is space in a class.  You can sign up for our mailing list on the top of our homepage or below.  Next Session will be Sept/Oct 2022. Class price will be $310. There will be a variety of classes being offered that are the same as our regular schedule.  Artist in Residence spaces will cost $185/month.

Artist-in-Residence

Picture
We have enough space for 8-9 artists-in-residence who rent access for $170/mo.  This includes firings, glazes, and shelf space.  You by clay from the studio as you need it for $35/25lbs. This is perfect for artists who want to work on their own and already have expertise in working with clay.  Currently we have limited openings for artists-in-residence spaces.

Please contact us if you are interested.  You will be asked to send images of your work. We can start a waiting list if need be.  Sometimes the best way to access the studio is through the classes.  You still get access and many use a class to do their independent project.

Payment and Refund Policy

Payment is expected after you register to save your space in class, unless you have made other arrangements with Kirsten.  Payment plans can be set up if need be.

When you sign up for any class at TCS, you sign up understanding that the pandemic is out of our control and we will not be giving refunds or postponing our classes as we will switch to online learning.  We will continue to teach the highest level of ceramics education through our Clay School @Home Studio Program.

Since almost all of our classes run full, if you register for class that means that someone else has been turned away to save your place in class.   For this reason we cannot offer refunds if you decide to drop-out of class unless you drop out MORE THAN A WEEK (7 Days) BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS. If you drop out more than a week before class begins we will refund your class minus a $50 registration fee. Otherwise if you are within a week of the first class starting we will be unable to refund you. We will make every effort to accommodate you if you need to switch classes due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts or other such emergencies or events but can not guarantee a spot in another class if they are already full. It is our goal to make you happy and to teach you the joy of working with clay.

We don't prorate classes if you are going away on vacation or just going to miss a few. Please, please feel free to make-up any class you might miss by attending another class being offered during the same session.  Due to COVID19 you do need to check with the teacher first to make sure they have room for you in the class you want to attend. Make-up classes may be hard to schedule or impossible depending on the class size.  We can also send you a video project from our library in lieu of a make-up class. We do not guarantee a make-up class will be available for you that will work in your schedule but we will try. Make-up classes however do not carry over into the next 8 week session.

We want you to work, have fun, and get the most out of your time at The Clay School.
